Summer is here and desert riding is out of the question, it is just to hot! So during the summer months we take a week and go to Kennedy Meadows. If you have never been there you are in for a special riding experience. And if you are a California desert rider like me, your dreams of riding through lush meadows and beautiful streams is about to be realized.
The drive up is not so bad. Keep an eye to the left and you will see that the drive down is a little scarier. A truck full of logs on one part is a reminder of how your trip down could end up if your not careful. Don't forget to stop mid way down and give your brakes a rest. (My husband says this is not necessary with the "new" brakes on current model motor homes. But our old 78 Lindy needed the rest!)
http://www.desertdutch.org/kennedy.htm is a great blog about the drive up and best describes your first adventure into this wilderness.
A few things to remember while in Kennedy:
1. There are rattle snakes, be loud in camp and while hiking. It's is your best defense.
2. Beware Bears.
3. Bring wet wipes along on your rides. The dirt here is especially dirty. I have hundreds of pictures from breaks during a long ride that we are all black faced!
4. Don't forget your fishing pole.
5. Bring a good book. Nothing quite as good as sitting by a stream all day and getting emerged into a light read while the kids play in the stream.
6. Bug Spray!
7. Grab a map from the country store.
Have Fun! And see you there!

Presidents Weekend...Always Epic!
We went on our Annual Presidents Weekend riding trip and as always it was PERFECT! We went out to Uncle Donnies (just outide of Gorman, CA in the glorious town of Neenach) and the weather was pure perfection, low 70's during the day, light breeze and blue skies. Lots of mud made for some dirtier than usual kids and perfect (no dust) riding. Bailey is riding like a champ and she had lot's of kids to ride with this time. It's funny how infectious it is. The small kids want to ride and we all take turns taking them on rides. My niece actually fell asleep while her mom was giving her a little "putt" around camp.
We even got a reminder that Adam (our nephew that passed WAY too soon, I will dedicate a blog to introduce him soon) is still with us when a butterfly came around and landed on his bike (that was given to my husband after he passed) right on the sticker that we had made in memorium for him. Gave us all a lump in our throats and a smile to our faces.
So now the chore of cleaning the mud and putting everything away til the next trip! The memories have been made and fun was had by all! Trips like this one brings us all closer together as a family. When everyone is home, safe and sound I can breath deep, and thank god for another safe and amazing trip.
